Coordination & Linkage

Hands on Waist Rotations

Cues:

  1. Stand Tall
  2. Hands on the waist
  3. Rotate from the hips
  4. Let the shoulders and feet follow
  5. The head stays still

What to look for:

This is all about linking the entire body together through a rotational movement. Often times the swimmer does not want to “unlock their feet” as it feels awkward to them in the absence of coordination, so they will just rotate the hips and shoulders, and “leave the feet behind”.

Instead of simply sticking their foot out during the rotation, which is common, we want them to rotate the body together, and the foot will naturally “go with them”.
